Think LSD (Long, Slow, Deep), YIN – more passive stretches (mainly on the floor) that offer deeper access to the muscles, connective tissue and fascia, a restorative healing style sometimes using props like blocks, straps, bolsters and blankets that help the muscles to open and relax in a gentle way. Meditation and Pranayama (Breath) will be a focus of this class and the soft candlelight will help you to slow down your brain wave patterns, feel well rested and prepare you for a wonderful night’s sleep. The other benefits are:-
Calming and balancing to the mind and body;
Regulating energy in the body;
Increasing mobility, stamina and flexibility;
Lowering stress levels
Better lubrication of the joints
Provide coping mechanisms for stress and anxiety;
A great compliment to your stronger (YANG) yoga practice.
This style of yoga is simple but not necessarily easy or comfortable! One of the hardest things for us to do these days is to stop or at least slow down and be still. Although there are no planks, no warriors or dynamic sun salutations the greatest challenge lies in slowing down, turning down the volume of the thoughts and tuning in to our body’s sensations and the breath. This can be deeply healing, nourishing, grounding and calming. Not sure about you but I just want to rush off to a “Candlelight Yoga” class NOW!
